White corundum is a type of material that is derived from industrial alumina powder. The process for creating it involves melting the powder in an arc furnace at a high temperature, exceeding 2000 degrees. After the material is cooled, it is ground, shaped, and screened for particle size to create different products. Due to its angular shape and close texture, it is ideal for manufacturing ceramics, resin consolidation abrasive tools, precision casting, and high-grade refractory materials.
Compared to brown corundum, white corundum has a slightly higher hardness and a slightly lower toughness. This material is highly pure, self-sharpens, and has strong grinding ability, making it efficient and effective for various applications. Additionally, white corundum is acid and alkali-resistant, has high thermal stability at elevated temperatures, and does not affect the color of the workpiece. It is also suitable for sandblasting in the process where iron powder residue is prohibited, due to its low iron oxide content.
The micro-powder grade of white corundum is highly suitable for wet sandblasting and grinding operations due to its high processing speed and quality. It is also ideal for sandblasting operations where no iron residue is permitted.
